WHO
ARE THE INDIVIDUALS IDENTIFIED ON THE SITE AS APPRAISERS?Back
Individuals who are identified as
appraisers in the Member Directory have done so themselves on a voluntary
basis. We do not vouch for any of these individuals’ credentials as an
appraiser or expertise in the field in which they have designated as their
specialty. Most appraisers work on a fee for service basis so if you
contact any of these individuals on the site be sure to find out what if any
their charges/fees/requirements are first. When considering purchasing any
artwork it is always a good idea to get a qualified appraisal if you are unsure
of the objects value or authenticity. While you don't have to have
certifications to be a competent appraiser generally speaking any national
certifications and/or national memberships in their field adds certain
credibility to the individuals as a qualified appraiser.
WHAT MAKES OUR WEBSITES AND ART U
FIND UNIQUE TO THE WEB AND THE ART WORLD?
We have a developed a unique art
search engine that encompasses a broad range of art and antiques and allows for
art collectors, dealers and those who have art to sell work directly and look
for specific artwork. This allows the
selling process to be more efficient. Since the site is based on subscription instead of commissions or added
fees it allows for artwork to be more accessible. Our search engine produces matches based on
well thought out artwork criteria, like price, media, style, and art
location. Our site features a FREE email
alert for artwork in which members are looking for.
WHAT WE DON’T DO:
We are a portal only. We NEVER
negotiate or act as your agent in your behalf. We NEVER authenticate anything
or guarantee any artwork; that is up to the individual parties. It’s up to you
to do your homework to insure who you are buying artwork from a reputable
individual or dealer. If something feels funny or it’s too good to
be true, it probably is. Do a little leg work; check the person or galleries
credentials you are purchasing artwork from. Both parties should feel
comfortable with the transaction. There
is a list of art specialists who are willing to do appraisals (these are
generally fee for service) of art work you may want vetted first, we do not
certify any of these appraisers. We provide the name of an insurance
company that writes policies to protect against fraudulent work or title which
you may want to investigate before trading especially for any high ticket
items.
We DON’T ship or INSURE anything
ever; we are a portal; not a gallery or auction house. By making the sale
directly it is also up to you to work out the details of the transaction. Getting
something in writing that spells out what you’re are purchasing including
condition is always a good idea.
We DO NOT collect any taxes; the
selling parties are responsible for any and all taxes which may apply. Many
states require the individual purchasing something online to pay a use tax,
check to see if you may be responsible for state taxes. Check your local states
statues if you are unsure and/or check with an accountant, never assuming just
because you are buying out of state and online that you don't have tax
obligations, ignorance of the law is no excuse for not paying due taxes.
We are not responsible for any fees
or costs associated with any sales you make, we are a platform NOT the agent of
the artwork featured on any of our art sites.
Remember if you are selling
something which is illegal you are breaking the law. If you are unsure if
something you want to sell is inappropriate object don’t list it, until you
know for sure. You are always responsible for what artwork you list
on any of our sites, including its copyright. We reserve the right to
remove any listed objects which are offensive, cultural sensitive,
pornographic, or simply inappropriate for the site. This is a condition to be
allowed to use our site and become a member. If you have a problem with
your art being vetted, don't list art on the site.
We are an art community which hopes
to facilitate the creativity that art and artists bring to the world.
WHAT WE LIST ON OUR SITE AND WHO CAN
LIST ARTWORK:
This is an art promotion site and
art is what we are interested in. The definition of art can vary greatly but
would include Native American, African, Oceanic, Folk, Antiques, Limited
edition Prints, Vintage Posters, Paintings, Sculpture, Blown Glass, Wood, and
Photography. You must be 18 years old to list artwork on any of our sites
including the Art U Find web site. You
must have legal title to the artwork you are listing for sale.
WE DO NOT LIST:
Guns or automatic weapons of any
kind, Culturally sensitive items, Collectibles, memorabilia, clothing or
anything which is not legal to sell or trade. No obviously pornographic
materials is allowed, if national museums won't show it, neither will we.
HOW DO YOU KNOW YOU WHEN SOMEONE
WANTS TO PURCHASE MY ARTWORK?
An email will come from our site
from potential individuals interested in purchasing your artwork. The email
will specify which item they are looking to purchase, at this point if so
desired you can give personal information for contacting you regarding the
transaction or just use our in house email system. At some point if you
do make a sale you will need to share information about each other to solidify
the final transaction.
HELPFUL HINTS ON SELLING ARTWORK ON
THE NET
Most people will have an idea of
what the value the artwork they want to sell. If no value is given or you have
reservations about the stated value you may want to get an appraisal of the
piece you are purchasing. You may want to do an internet search on that artist
or artwork to find out values. We have a list of helpful art resources.
There are good resources available in most cities, you should always feel secure
in what you are purchasing, do your research if in doubt.
Red flags mean trouble look for
these, as with any community there are always those looking to take advantage
of the system. The following are some examples of Red flags which may say
be careful!
If not completely satisfied with
email correspondence then talk in person before finalizing the transaction.
If the individual still only wants to make the sale through email and
never share information this may be a red flag.
Sales which involve shipping out of
the country need to be thoroughly investigated. Many scams for art originate
from foreign countries.
Emails which have poor spelling,
punctuation or grammar are a red flag.
Anyone who needs URGENT attention is
a red flag.
If the sale involves money beware of
checks unless they are coming from a vetted source. Certified checks or money orders can be
forged. PayPal or credit cards are good
alternatives.
If you are asked to send money for
part of the sale this is a red flag, check it out thoroughly.
Take the time to do a search on the
person offering the art or wanting to trade. The more information regarding who
you are buying from will add to your comfort level. Professionals in the
artworld do art sales all the time on the internet and should be able to answer
any questions you have. Doing an internet search is a great way to learn
who you are dealing with.
When someone makes an offer to
purchase toward something you have listed on the site it is always a good idea
to respond even if you’re not even vaguely interested. If they were interested
enough to respond to your artwork or make an offer , they more than likely
admire your artwork and are that much closer to being someone you might deal
with in the future.
We do not pay legal fees and do not
assist in any resolution of a dissatisfactory sale or trade, so make sure you
understand what you are buying and who the responsible parties are if the sale
doesn't work out.
Always Ask condition of anything you
are purchasing, pieces in excellent condition are worth more than then those
with restoration or damage. If you don’t ask you won’t know. Always ask on both
ends of the trade about condition.
Always make sure that the person who
is selling the art or services has the legal title and authority to make the
sale, again getting something in writing is always a good idea.
Making a sale which is local gives
you the option to meet and can improve your chances for a successful outcome.
Make sure you discuss how shipping
will be arranged, insurance and who pays for what. Discuss what happens if
there needs to be a return, who pays for shipping and insurance. If something
is damaged in shipping discuss before the sale who is responsible. Many
Professional dealers and artists will often carry art insurance. If you need
art insurance or advice you can first ask one of our community
insurance partner resources, they may be able to help insure the artwork you
want to trade.
